Brazil has one of the most expressive programs turned to the environmental cause. Acting in many fronts of biodiversity protection, including environmental education, the Sesc Pantanal Project, kept by the Commerce Social Service, is converted in model of education, preservation, scientific research and eco-tourism.
The EESP is situated in the cities of Poconé and Barão de Melgaço. Singular in its organization, acts with the natives, with the Indians, with researchers, universities, research institute and non governmental organization. The matter is environmental sustainability. The commitment is with the improvement on the quality of life from those who live or work in Pantanal.
The researches on SESC Pantanal Project amplify the technical scientific knowledge needed to a sustainable ecologic administration. Because of it were established partnerships with federal universities, with EMBRAPA and non governmental organizations in many studies and advanced researches on Fauna, flora, water sources, soil, weather, tourism, Social organization, environment and environmental education.
The presence of SESC on the Pantanal’s Biodiversity conservation, on of the richest biosphere of the Planet, is in harmony with the call made to the entrepreneurs from the Commerce and industry on the occasion of the United Nations Conference for the environment, RIO – 92, trying to understand the handling of the environment as a priority and determinant factor to the sustainable development. It is to develop an ethical conscience and environmental on the decision making in relation to the natural patrimony.
The work being executed on the EESP introduces new concepts to the traditional politics of social welfare, strengthening the environmental issue with actions of education, social and leisure, and the most promissory, with incentives to the business systems and sustainable productions.
The SESC turn itself to the others branches of the organized society, the governmental politics and privates, around a big project designated to accelerate the formation of an environmental public conscience, combining and promoting ideas and initiatives, some simples others more arranged, but all of them with social importance.
The Socio-environment activity of the EESP reaches the rural communities in or around the north Pantanal. Always with total respect to their traditions and cultural manifestation and respecting their lifestyle, starting to draw in the Pantanal a project capable to accumulate, generate and distribute knowledge to future generations.
The facilities construction of the EESP Sesc Pantanal privileged the solutions with low environment impact or ecologically right such as: Solar Power, Green Roof, Solar Collectors, exploitation of the rain water, reuse of the water, sewer treatment systems, water treatment systems, organic trash composing, wood handling from forests or legal reforestation, noise controllers and trash recycling.
The EESP is composed by 5 operational fronts with specified missions, but all of them integrated viewing the sustainable development, the environmental preservation and education, the scientific research and the social eco-tourism.
On of those fronts is the ecologic reserve, the biggest Private Reserve of the Natural Patrimony – RPPN SESC Pantanal, with 106.000 ha. The Private Reserves of the Natural Patrimony are areas of nature conservation in private properties. The existence of a RPPN is an act of will, the proprietor decides if he wants to transform his property of part of it in a RPPN. The RPPN is forever.
