The Inter-American Development Bank Prioritizes
Continuity in Dialogue with Civil Society

Today, Roberto Vellutini, IDB’s Vice President for Countries, hosted a meeting between IDB senior management and representatives from the Bank Information Center, Amazon Watch, WWF, CIEL, CEDHA, ITeM, FUNDAR and DAR. By focusing on the IDB Board of Governors’ Cancun Declaration this meeting gave continuity to the sessions held with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at the recent Board of Governor’s Annual Meeting.

The IDB is making every effort to be responsive to civil society concerns regarding the Cancun Declaration, which includes a general framework for the Ninth Capital Replenishment (GCI-9). Some of the topics under discussion with CSOs are: IDB institutional priorities, regional integration, climate change, renewable energy, project level reporting metrics, development effectiveness matrix, the new Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (ICIM), the information disclosure policy update (new Access to Information Policy Profile currently in phase one of public consultation), environment and social safeguards, and private sector operations.

The IDB will continue to prioritize civil society participation and make a concerted effort to address concerns regarding our development work in Latin America and the Caribbean.
