Bishop Cappio completes more 10 days of hunger

GreenPeace - Bali

It is the second time in two years that Bishop Cappio protests against the Federal Government project criticizing that project is  expensive and not efficient against the drought.

Two years ago he stayed 11 days without eating to alert the public opinion about the big mistake that will occur. Besides many protests , the government was willing to spend R$ 4,5 billion in  this project. The government had planned to divert water from the Sao Francisco river to the north-east's drought-prone regions.

Cappio´s act called attention  of the public opinion and stop the project. The government re-open the discussion to see the best way to use  São Francisco river against the drought.
São Francisco River transposition project  of the Federal Government  - R$ 4,5 billion and will not solve  the  drought  in the Brazilian  Northeast.

The government started again the construction in Bahia State where Bishop Cappio lives. Man in the army started the work in June of this year.

Bishop Cappio did  not see another alternative and started the hunger strike again. This hunger strike  has 10 days and Bishop is becoming weaker and needs serum  to minimize  the dehydration that he is suffering His biggest criticism is that the project is very expensive and will not help people and will attend the cities which has a good supply of water.

President Lula says that what is at stake is the life of the Bishop against the life of 12 million Brazilian people in which he said that will be the beneficiary of this project. Now we need to know if President Lula will let the Bishop die!
