Amigos da Terra - Amazônia Brasileira - registered Brazilian public interest civil society organization - has received several questions regarding a document about REDD adopted recently in an event in the city of Belém, that affirms “to reject the use of market mechanisms”. We clarify that we did not sign this document and have never been invited to participate in its discussion. Our organisation retains an historical leadership role in the promotion of the recognition of forest values in the realm of climate change, in traditional partnership with the organizations that are part of the Alliance of Forest Peoples, including the confederation of Indigenous organisations (COIAB), the network of extractive communities (CNS) and the NGO Amazon network (GTA). We participate actively in the International Dialogue on Climate and Forests and in the Brazilian Forum for Climate Change.
